Father Tom Gabula’s is from Uganda. Just four months after his ordination as a Catholic priest, Father Tom was paralyzed from the waist down in a motorbike accident.
Given the poverty of the country he is from, there was very limited care, therapy and rehabilitation. As a consequence, Father Thomas, since his accident, lay flat in bed. At 30, Father Tom felt isolated, like he was a burden.
"I was simply lying in bed. I had no skills, on what to do with myself,” he said. Thanks to the compassion and kindness of several people, he was able to come to the States to get some rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center.
However, he still has many obstacles to face. Due to Uganda’s poverty, it is very difficult and expensive to have access to basic medical supplies. The Wheels of Happiness foundation sends Father Thomas medical supplies he needs to be able to function and be productive.
